The Lexus SC400 rally car that we race decided that the battery needed a new change of address after racing the Ridge Rally in 2025. So like any proper racing program, I found my way to Mele Designs and reached out to that chat bubble.
After talking to the bubble and the owner, Mitch, about the needs of the car, we landed on this kit with the Full Throttle Battery.
This mount is SOLID. I’ll be honest, the M6 hardware provided gave me a small amount of pause, but after installing it and pulling on it in every direction, I’m confident this thing is going to survive every rally going forward.
When we pulled on the box to be able to give it the “that ain’t going nowhere” slap of approval, the car rocked, not the mount.
I paid for this, so this isn’t an ad of any kind, if you need to mount that battery down so it doesn’t become a projectile while hitting the Boyd loop jump, or 15 consecutive ruts that your King Shocks try their best to absorb, this is the bad dad to hold down the fort.
If you’re even looking at this box, you need it. Because you’ll need it before you need it.
Extremely well made battery carrier. Dimensions are perfect. Construction is solid. Nothing negative to say about it at all.
Rally Spec 1200 Series Battery Mount
I saw the battery mounts on Rob Dahm's YouTube channel, and thought it would be a good fit for a battery relocation to the trunk for my 2004 SRT-4. I found they had a Rally Spec Mount for the XS Power D1200 battery I had purchased. It looks so much better than the battery boxes from JEG's/Summits/etc. The fit is very snug and there is virtually no play at all with the battery once installed.
The mount itself looked very nice, with multiple mounting locations made it a breeze for deciding on where to place it.
Install was very easy, and was less than 10 minutes to install after deciding on the location/orientation, and prepping the area (cutting holes in the factory trunk carpet for the mounting points). I installed the mounting bracket using the supplied M6x1.0 rivnuts. It was super easy.. I would definitely recommend for anyone doing a battery relocation. I think it would even work for the guys who move their battery to inside the bumper cover in from of the drivers tire on the SRT-4.
In the pictures I took, it looks like the box is just resting on the carpet, but it is fully secured. I cleaned up the box after the pictures were taken, removing the dirt/debris on the outside of the box as shown.
I have a power distribution block mounted behind it (1/0 AWG in from alternator to 150amp fuse to battery >> 1/0 AWG from battery to dist. block >> 4 AWG dist. block to starter (no fuse) >> 4 AWG Stereo Amplifier (80amp fuse) >> 8 AWG to fuel pump (30amp) >> 4 AWG to main fuse box in engine bay (30 amp fuse) >> 1/0 AWG ground to chassis).)
First off the attention to detail on the battery box is outstanding. You can really tell a lot of care goes into every little detail. From recommending me a battery to fit my needs to helping with install question the customers service is top notch. I am so happy to have proper storage for my battery and know that it is secure and won't go sliding around will on the trail.
